Volunteer at the Museum

Do you have an interest in history? Are you looking for a way to give back to the community? Than the Greater Southwest Historical Museum needs you! The Museum needs volunteers to assist with everyday tasks and special events. There are lots of jobs all year round that could use your help.

  • Our front desk is in need of an attendant in the afternoons, most weekdays. This person greets visitors, telling them what exhibits the Museum has to offer and answering any questions people may have about the general area. The desk attendant also helps out in the gift shop with restocking or sales.
  • Our Curator often needs help with specific projects within the Museum collections. Many of our storage areas are in need of some reorganization and cleaning. A volunteer in this area would receive training in handling museum objects and work under the close supervision of the Curator.
  • The GSHM also has lots of hands on maintenance work. With 35 acres of land there is a lot of work to do at this time of year. Volunteers in this area would work with our maintenance staff.
  • The Museum holds special events throughout the year that volunteers can assist with. Our Kid’s Craft program runs from January through May every year. And our popular Santa’s House on the Prairie is held annually in December. The tasks involved in each of these events vary.

This is only a small sampling of the projects available for interested people here at the Museum. Volunteers ages 18 and older are welcome in all areas. If you are interested in helping out the staff fill out the Volunteer Application available on this page and send it to the Museum.
